Our perspective is that next generation aerospace
technology is poised to advance significantly.
It seems important to keep in mind, however, that while some improvements
may seem viable in the "lab", relative cost benefit and economical
manufacturability with robust practicality are often generally, of
paramount importance for commercialization.
Notably many of the potential
improvements imply a much safer context overall than is achievable
with current technology.
Preliminary estimates indicate travel via a next
generation hybrid engine powered
composite airframe from Canberra to London, may only take a few hours.
One of the main incentives for research, besides shorter travel time,
is that long term air pollution might be much reduced, with innovative
new engine technology.
